I'm 24 actually, but I don't have a wife or child either, so it's an acceptable lie for the sake of the story that I didn't even write. Then again, I suppose none of you thought I was dead either, so I guess none of this explanation matters in the slightest.

The Egg was written by Andy Weir

That sounds all great and grand and stuff... but what if you were a sociopath in a previous life and all of that life's experiences would come flooding back to you, haunting you for as long as you remained...

If you were truly a sociopath, they wouldn't really be haunting you then, would they?

In fact, I'd guess that they'd probably fill you with a warm fuzzy feeling...

Well, how one would deal with that really depends on the belief system. Unlike Christianity and Islam most New Age belief systems don't have a holy text to concretely(you know what I mean) explain that sort of thing; so the beliefs wind up being unique to each sect and/or individual. However, there are a few common beliefs concerning this kind of thing:

In the environment where you are capable of remembering everything(as in, the 'afterlife') you're not simply a collection of your individual life experiences. By that I mean, even if you were a sociopath in one or several of your previous lives, your higher self is not going to be a sociopath; nor will you be 'forever haunted' by the memories of who you once were. Your higher self will see those experiences for what they truly are, something that's necessary to learn everything needed to achieve a higher consciousness.

I've also heard some belief systems that would say a truly evil person most likely would end up reincarnated on one of the lower-planes(think hell but not as bad) to atone for their wrongdoings. The TRULY evil would most likely wind up dying on the lower planes and wind up reaching an even lower and more horrifying plane of existence; this would continue until they either were able to atone and repent, or essentially became nothing more than concentrated being of negativity and evil.

Hmm, interesting, certainly...

Truth be told, I hadn't intended any veracity in my statements, they were purely in jest - though I am glad it led to some new knowledge on my part!
